Best store bought pizza?

I’m wondering what most people feel is the best store-bought pizza…ie - frozen pizza.  To me, the one that seems most like classic hand tossed pizza is DiGiorno’s standard pizza.DiGiorno Pizza  The crust is really very good for a frozen pizza.

What are some of your favorites?  Let’s discuss!

Shouldn’t that pizza sauce be refrigerated?

There is a local pizza delivery place that I frequently drive by.  That drive-by alone is enough to keep me from ordering pizza from this place, which by the way, is a franchise of a mid-sized pizza chain.

You see, this place has large windows all the way around the front and both sides.  Their pizza prep area runs along about half of the front windows.  The thing I always, without fail, see when I drive by?

Pizza Sauce BucketIt’s a giant clear plasic tub, full of pizza sauce.  It just sits there, next to the windows, no refrigerated, not on ice, not under heat lamps…just there, for what I can only assume is all day.  With no lid mind you.  From open to close, this bucket-o-sauce just sits out.  Maybe that’s okay in the eyes of the department of health…I don’t know.  But it is not okay to me.  Shouldn’t that sauce be refrigerated, or at least on ice?  I don’t get it, but I do get that it disgusts me.

Anyway, that’s all I have to say about that.

Anyone think I’m being crazy?  Would this bother you?

Welcome to the world of pizza…and we’re off!

August 13, 2007 by handtossedpizza

So today I had pizza for lunch.  It was the pizza on offer at one of our corporate cafeterias.  I work at a Uge company with 23,000 some odd employees.  Our cafeterias are run by a nationally know catering company who you’ve probably heard of.Remnants of a greasy piece of pie

Anyway, the pizza is offered almost daily here.  It is well, from a pizza lovers perspective, friggin nasty!  I litterally sopped up two paper towels worth of grease from a personal sized peperoni pizza.  I still ate it, even after the oil-spill-like clean up process.  I’m going to regret that later, I’m sure of it.

I’m sure you’ve had a similar experience.  It seems to be a staple in the world of pizza that for every perfectly prepared pie, there is a comparatively bad example right around the corner.  Not that I was expecting a masterpiece from the lunch line, but is it really that hard to make a pizza without a puddle of grease on the top?  I think not!  I’ve done it myself, at home…and I’m no Luigi!

Had similar experiences? Do tell!!!
